The Henry instruments were designed for the minimally invasive endoscopic lateral approach to parathyroid surgery. This approach is achieved by developing the plane between the carotid sheath laterally and the strap muscles medially. The procedure is performed via one 10mm optic port and two 3mm operating ports, placed on the medial border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. This "back door" approach allows direct access to the posterior aspect of the thyroid lobe, without the need for the dissection of the strap muscles or medial retraction of the thyroid during the procedure.
The set includes a series of insulated monopolar instruments to provide safe and convenient hemostasis to the operative site. The 3mm trocars provide operating ports for the instrumentation and can be sutured to prevent involuntary removal. The 10mm trocar ring has been specifically designed to maintain insufflation and traction during surgery and can be affixed with a purse string suture through skin and muscles to amplify the operative
space.
